HDR Revolution

Now that I'm getting to grips with the various processes needed to create HDR images I find that when I look back at my "normal" shots they seem boring! Anyway went out in search of some good HDR candidates today. Also revisited some old scenes to see if I could improve on the pictures.

Get your HDR on!

Getting to grips with generating these digital pictures on steroids. I find the whole process fascinating and makes for some really inspiring images. Planning to get out to some different locations when work and family allow and exploit these processes to get some really delicious images!

Cycling in HDR

Been curious about HDR images for a while. Finally received my new camera (D90 baby!!) and got the software I needed so here are the results. Basically you take 3 pictures with the same composition (normal, over and under exposed). You then use software to combine the 3 exposures. This results in a high contrast image that shows much more detail than is normally apparent. I also tried converting the results to black and white and quite like them. Expect more of this style in the future!

Terra Culture

Great cafe/restaurant with a real African vibe. In Lagos there are too many places trying to be something their not and charging you extortionate prices for this delusion. Terra Culture is one of the few places I've been to that successfully celebrates its African heritage. Lovely atmosphere, good food. They also have a great book shop and an art gallery celebrating African Artists within the premises. So there's lots to do whilst waiting, Naija style, on your cuisine ;)

Water Baby

When I first started cycling in Lagos it opened my eyes to a whole new dimension. I saw parts of Lagos I never noticed before, smelled, heard, experienced things I would have never otherwise had the opportunity to. Spending Saturday afternoon with a bunch of guys and their Jet Ski's had a similar impact on me. A feeling akin to being born again. On the water this time. Now I just have to make that appointment with my bank manager........

It's a great feeling to know that you are in good company. Folarin has been a friend for time, but only recently did I discover he held similar interests to me. I find his pictures inspiring and have learnt a lot from him in a very short space of time. We're hoping to collaborate on local projects and in the coming weeks I'll be hosting more of his work. Ladies and gents. Studioflow.

UniLag (University of Lagos)

My mother was a microbiologist at UniLag, so I have fond memories of the place. Full of iconic architectural design and some truly ground breaking innovations in its time.

Into the Night

I've been going for rides later and later recently. This has opened my eyes to another unique side of Lagos. People don't really wander about at night here mainly due to security, but if you take the risk it can be quite fascinating. (Mum if you're reading this please don't worry!). What people on the streets do to unwind, different sounds, different smells. The absolute darkness in certain places. Anyway after a particularly late ride I decided to pull out my tripod and camera, stick it in manual mode, and see what came out the other end...... ;)

Come Again Another Day......

I keep going on about the raining season so I decided to take some pictures to show you. Now you'd think this was simple enough, but the water gets so deep and the rain so heavy that I dare not take pictures whilst standing in it. Anyway not my best, but they show you Lagos in the raining season!

Light Box

Rain, rain, rain. They weren't kidding when they said raining season was coming! We've been housebound the past couple of days, as our road is under a river of water and waste. To keep boredom at bay I decided to build a light box. Google we hail thee! Had to improvise, but got there in the end. Cardboard box, grease proof paper, double sided tape, A1 sheet of white card (thanks Papa!). Pretty pleased with the results. Going to tweak the lighting a bit and get some more interesting subjects to "snap", as we say in Gidi. As soon as the river outside our gate has moved on :| ......
